Other Vital Info:
Postponement of exams for individuals will usually be
allowed for the following reasons; serious personal illness, death in the
family, conflict with intercollegiate athletics. I strongly suggest that you minimize your participation in other
activities, given the nature of J-term organic!
Detailed syllabi and problem
sets are handed out at the start of a unit in the course. I do not collect or grade problem sets. I find that my generously available, but
alas, limited time (or the time of a grader/tutor) is better spent helping
those who are having real difficulties in CH241, rather than grading problem sets.
The problems which are listed for each unit from Bruice comprise a
"minimum set" in which I've gone through and culled out those which I
think are either highly repetitive or dumb.
If you do not own the answer guide, copies are on reserve in the Science
Center Library - Use it conservatively.
If you're having a hard time, I recommend that you do more problems than
assigned. I also will frequently assign additional problems, usually of my own
creation, which are particularly diagnostic for you to use for self-assessment.
I usually put two folders on reserve in the Science Center
Library. One folder is entitled “EXAMS,
OLD” and contains, you guessed it, exams from previous years when I have taught
the course, as well as answers. Old
exams will also be available on the course SERVER account (NOT WEB SITE!) his can be found at Classes\Vol1\W02\ch241a\HANDOUTS. I have a folder entitled “ANSWERS”, which strange as it may
sound, includes answers from all graded material which you hand in over the
semester. It will also include answers
to any practice problems I may assign which are not answered in the Bruice
Study Guide. All handouts for the
course will be available on the web site.
